As a lover of fashion, you know firsthand just how easy it is to gather inspiration from the style we see on film.
If you’re a fan of pin-up dresses, huge victory rolls, and of course, red lipstick, chances are that you’ve turned to rockabilly movies to help you refine your look.
But if you love these movies as much as we do, you know that there are some films that we’d love to see get the remake treatment!
Read on to find out which ones made the cut.
1. The Outsiders
Based on the classic young adult novel by S.E. Hinton, this 1983 movie tells the story of two rival gangs in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, and Matt Dillon, this movie had the kind of cast that makes the heart of teenage girls everywhere flutter.
Now that we’re all grown up, it’s definitely time for a reboot. Plus, we think the conflict between the wealthy Socs and the poverty-stricken Greasers would feel especially timely.
2. Shake, Rattle, And Roll
The Rocky Horror Picture Show may have gotten a recent reboot, but when it comes to rockabilly movies, there’s another cult classic that we think deserves more time on the silver screen.
This delightfully over-the-top, campy movie follows several high school students who decide to start their own rock band. Of course, things don’t quite go as planned as dramas and love interests get in the way of their dreams.
The amazing 1950’s fashion made this movie especially fun to watch.
With vintage and rockabilly clothing coming back into style, we’d love to see the costumes in a different light today!
Come on, you knew this was coming.
John Waters’ 1990 film is undoubtedly the staple of every Rockabilly music fan’s movie collection.
Though the film got the Broadway treatment in 2008 to rave reviews, we’re dying to see a remake on the big screen. This movie had it all: Ricki Lake, Willem Dafoe, and of course, Johnny Depp.
Following the bad boys and girls of the drapes, as they wreck havoc and interact with the squares, the film is set in a gritty 1950s Baltimore. Of course, it doesn’t take long before Depp’s character breaks all the rules — in a different way — by starting to see Allison, a decidedly square local girl.
